Step 5: Creating and placing your Ads

Once you have your Adsense account approved and you have you website / blog ready, you can create your ads from Adsense. All you need to do is login into Adsense with your credentials and click "create ads". There are a lot of options like leaderboard, banner, half banner etc , you can choose one that suits you website . Also you can change the colors etc for your ads. After you are done with creating your ads, You are given the choice in which size you want, colours, shape, etc.

First of all I will like to tell you the difference between Ad units and Link units:-
Ad units display direct ads, once a visitor clikcs one of the ad unit you get paid for it. While Link unit show link to the pages where ads are displayed, so in this case you will be paid when user click on link unit and then on ad on the page that opens up. So the question is why use link units? There are few reasons for that, most important is that they mingle well with site content and the second one is you can use 3 Link units per page.

Actually the limits are :-
(1). 3 Ad units per page
(2). 3 Link units per page
(3). 2 Custom search box.
(4). 1 Video ads.

Now how to place Ads in site/ blog so that it generates maximum revenue?
So one should understand that ads are what earn money for you. So you should be most careful while placing ads on your blogs / site .The best and smartest thing to do is be very smart about choosing the ad format and where you place your ads. I have done a lot of research on this issue, some say that it is best to place ads in left column because a right handed user tends to look left while playing with his mouse.I don't know if this is a fact, and you can place your ads where you want. One thing that I have learned so far, do not make your ads too catchy ( color , shape etc), make them look similar to your website other links and place your ads so that user can not avoid them. This can be done in many way ex: place your ads just below the most important links of your website. You can do a research of some color schemes and ad placement, but I will suggest do not get into this and follow your instinct.

In some website making / blogging sites you don't need to play with code even, they will provide you user interface and all you need to do is drag and drop.Like in blogspot, its just a click, you can create your adsense right there, colour, size and all. Others, you copy the ad code you recieve when you create it directly from your adsense account. One other site www.yola.com its just a drag and drop where you want the adsense, and you paste the code.

The advertisers bid on the sites and add spots they want to use, therefore it is very important that you have good location, and your site isn't over crowded with ads. You want the advertisers to WANT to be on your page, and its more appealing to be on a quality page with fewer ads for competition. Play around with it, and see what works. If you find your placement isn't working well, change it up a bit.

Two important lines that you should read and remember is:
(1). DO NOT USE ANY OF YOUR CONTENT TO BRING ATTENTION TO THE ADS OR CHANGE THE COLOR SO PEOPLE CAN NOT SEE "ADS BY GOOGLE " TAG.
(2). NEVER ALTER OR EDIT THE CODE GIVEN BY GOOGLE. THIS WILL RESULT IN YOU GETTING BANNED FROM THE PROGRAM

Now, you do not need to care about what ads will come on your site. Google take care of this issue and they will place ads related to your website content so that visitor of your website find ads useful for them.
