Step 4: WebMaster Tricks

Now what is this webmaster?
This a helper tool from google which will help you track down your site visitors.

Once your site is approved and your google adsense account is activated, you should register for webmaster and verify it with the webmaster. From your adsense accout, click on the tab RESOURCES, and from there go to the webmaster. Submit your sites web address, URL, and then verify it. Once you submit your site, the next page you will be brought to will have a place to click that says "verify your account" and you will be given 2 options. I have used the meta tag option with all my sites and found that to be the easiest for me. You will be given a code to copy and paste into the HTML of your page. Now, don't get scared because this is allot easier then it seems. Just use your help menus off the site you chose to use for your webpage, and look for the topic verifing with the webmaster. It shoud give you step by step instructions on where you will find the spot to paste your code.

Once this is done, go back to the webmaster and click verify. If you placed it correctly, your account will be verified instantly, however, it will take some time for google to start crawling your site and content.

Adding your Sitemap

After you have verified your web site, you will want to add your sitemaps

What is a SITEMAP?

A site map is a page or pages which lists all or most of the content of yor URLS. Sitemaps are an easy way for webmasters, which is you, the website owner, to inform search engines about pages on their sites that are available for crawling(finding the information on your site and indexing it). In its simplest form, a Sitemap is an XML file that lists URLs for a site along with additional metadata about each URL (when it was last updated, how often it usually changes, and how important it is, relative to other URLs in the site) so that search engines can more intelligently crawl the site.

What Google says about sitemaps

Sitemaps are particularly helpful if:

•Your site has pages that aren’t easily discovered by Googlebot during the crawl process - for example, pages featuring rich AJAX or Flash.
•Your site is new and has few links to it. (Googlebot crawls the web by following links from one page to another, so if your site isn’t well linked, it may be hard for us to discover it.)
•Your site has a large archive of content pages that are not well linked to each other, or are not linked at all.
